I came across something that felt very strange in a Dynamics 365 for Sales Trial environment this week when trying to make changes to it. Despite being the only user in the system, my user did not have the all-powerful System Administrator role. Now, for those of you familiar with security roles, this is very counter-intuitive to what we are used to. Traditionally, there ALWAYS had to be at least one user with a System Administrator security role. So, naturally, I simply try adding the System Administrator:
Well that’s strange. If I am the only user, and I’m not the system administrator, how can I ask my administrator to give me System Administrator privileges like we are used to?
It is always nice when the solution is an easy one isn’t it? This one definitely falls into that category. Simply navigate to Users within your Dynamics 365 environment (not Office 365 portal).
Settings > Security > Users
Now, simply select the user you want to make the System Administrator, and click “Promote To Admin”.
That’s all there is to it. Congratulations on your newly acquired control over your system!
